Education, training and jobs
Many jobs are seasonal, low-paid and insecure. However a large proportion of people have no formal qualifications and employers find it hard to find the skilled employees they need. This stops new businesses setting up in the area and can limit the growth of existing businesses. The nearest further education college is in Barnstaple – an hour away during the summer months.
Transform will:
- Work closely with Job Centre Plus and employers;
- Support a pilot project to establish training opportunities in tourism, catering and hospitality within Ilfracombe Central;
- Help to promote current training opportunities and bring new training options to the area;
- Use the Neighbourhood Management bases in Ilfracombe, Combe Martin and Bratton Fleming as a one-stop-shop for information and advice;
- Find out what barriers people face when they look for work or training.
